- The Jan Boyce avocado is considered a "gourmet" avocado variety
- Named after Jan Boyce, who was married to Al Boyce, the director of the Citrus Experiment Station in Riverside, CA.
- Medium sized, oval shaped fruit with a very small seed.
- Has a deep green color when ripe.
- Ripens quickly once picked
- Excellent flavor
- Thin skin and does not peel well and can be prone to splitting
- Height can be easily controlled to meet specific needs with regular pruning.
- Tree has a leggy habit
- Jan Boyce Avocado fruit size is roughly 7-11 oz.
- Ripens February-August.
- Grafted onto Mexican Seedling rootstock
- Suitable for USDA Zones 9-11
- Protect mature trees from temperatures below 28 F
- Trees younger than 3 years should be protected from temperatures below 32 F.
- TYPE A. Requires a TYPE B nearby for pollination in most climates.
