QUESTIONS REGARDING SHIPPING
Q: How do you ship?
A:
To the West Coast, we ship via UPS Ground. To the Midwest and East Coast, we ship UPS 3 Day. To Alaska and Hawaii,
we ship UPS 2nd Day Air. No signature is required except for some apartment buildings.
Q: When do you ship?
A: We ship on Mondays to insure arrival of trees before the weekend.
Q: Can I request a specific ship date?
A: You can order up to 4 weeks in advance. Select a Monday ship date on the Checkout page under the Delay Shipment Until heading. Orders to the West and Midwest arrive by Thursday and orders to the East arrive by Friday. You can time your order to arrive when you want -- perfect for birthdays, holidays, anniversaries and more!
Q: What if I want RUSH Service?
A:
Outside of California, you can request UPS 2 Day Air Rush Service for an additional $10.00 per order. Because all our orders go out on Monday or Tuesday, Rush Service orders are generally received one day earlier than our regular shipments.
Q: Can you ship to every state?
A: We can ship citrus trees throughout the US except for Arizona, Texas and Florida. Each citrus producing state, including California, prohibits importation of citrus trees from other areas. Customers from Arizona, Texas and Florida can
order non-tree Citrus Related Items here. We do not ship any items to the Virgin Islands, USVI, Guam, Puerto Rico or to API/APO addresses.
Q: What about Alaska and Hawaii?
A: UPS requires its 2nd Day Air rate for shipments to Alaska and Hawaii even though it may take 4 to 6 days. We add that rate charge to our regular shipping and handling costs. Due to Agriculture restrictions, we ship only the bare root Two-Three Year trees to Hawaii - not the One Year trees in the soil mix.
Q: How do I know when my order is shipped?
A: A UPS Tracking Number will be sent to the e-mail address provided for the recipient. You can follow your shipment at UPS Package Tracking.
Q: What if I have additional instructions regarding my order?
A: Send us an e-mail request that includes the Order Number from your Confirmation e-mail in the subject line. Please do not send us instructions through the Gift Message box.
Q: How do you handle cold weather shipping?
A: During the winter months, in areas where temperatures drop below freezing at night, we offer Cold Weather Handling with UPS 2nd Day Air shipping for an extra charge of $10.00 per order.

Q: What plants do you ship directly to consumers?
A: We ship grafted Dwarf Citrus directly to homes or businesses. In California, our product line is more extensive and can be found by visiting many local nurseries and garden centers. See Where to Buy in California.
Q: How old are the Dwarf Citrus trees?
A: We ship two sizes: 1 year-old trees and 2 to 3 year-old trees. See a photo.
Q: What is the difference between a One Year tree and a Two-Three Year tree?
A: One Year trees come in a 4" x 4" x 6" container of soil. They generally are 12"-16" tall with 3/8" diameter trunk. Within a month of delivery, it is best to repot into a larger container (6"-8" diameter) to give the roots more room to grow.
Two-Three Year trees are taller, well branched and have a larger root system. They have been grown in a 12 inch container and are over two feet tall. The Two-Three Year trees have a trunk that can range between 1/2" and 3/4" in diameter. The canopy is over a foot in diameter. See a photo of the difference.
Q: How do you package the plants?
A: The One Year trees are shipped in a plastic 4" pot and come one to a box. If you order more than one tree, the boxes will be taped together to form one package.
The Two-Three Year trees can be packaged with either 1 or 2 trees in one box. The roots and leaves may appear as one tree, as they are bundled together.
Q: Will they arrive in good condition?
A: We pack them with utmost care and have had great success in shipping. If your tree is damaged in transit, we will gladly replace it. The order process includes instructions for contacting UPS and Four Winds Growers if there is a problem. We use our discretion for winter shipment to avoid freezing in transit.
Q: What is your replacement policy?
A: We replace trees that are damaged in shipping. We guarantee that our Four Winds Growers dwarf citrus trees will be healthy and free of disease when we send them.
We want you to be successful. By providing growing instructions online and our detailed How to Grow booklet, which comes with every order, you have all the information you need to be successful. It is then up to you to provide the optimal conditions and care for your tree.

CARE & CULTURE QUESTIONS
Q: What do I need to do when I receive my One Year tree?
A: Open the package as soon as possible and check the moisture level in the soil. Place in a well lighted location. Water occasionally to keep soil lightly moist. Within a month of delivery, it is best to repot the tree into a larger container (6"-8" diameter) to give the roots more room to grow.
Q: What do I need to do when I receive my Two-Three Year tree?
A: Two-Three Year trees are carefully bare rooted and their roots packed in a bag with damp sawdust. Gently shake off some of the sawdust and separate the trunks, roots and foliage. Orders with multiple trees will arrive bundled and may appear as one plant! Plant in the ground if climate permits or in a container with adequate drainage holes. Avoid dense soil mixes or lighten them with wood shavings. Fertilizer incorporated in the mix will increase performance. Pot each tree in a 10"-14" diameter container with sufficient holes for drainage. Tie the tree to the stake provided for support. Do not tie too tightly and use horticultural ribbon if possible. Water the tree immediately after planting.
Q: How do I care for citrus trees?
A: Growing information is sent with each order. Basic needs are light, moisture and fertilizer. For details, visit our In the Ground, In Containers, As Houseplants, In A Greenhouse/Solarium pages or our searchable Citrus Problem Solver.
Q: What varieties are the best for indoor growing?
A: By far, the Meyer Lemon is the most popular. It is slightly sweeter than the classic commercial varieties (Eureka and Lisbon). Its thin skin and distinctive, mystical flavor combines lemon with a hint of tangerine. It is easy to grow, prolific and does not need a lot of heat to ripen the fruit. Bearss Seedless Lime is great for beverages and cooking. Kaffir Lime Leaves are used extensively for Thai cooking. Calamondin, with its small tart orange-colored fruit and fragrant blooms is also very popular. (Sometimes it's called "miniature orange".) Trovita Orange has sweet fruit in the spring.
Q: When will the trees bloom and produce fruit?
A: Since our trees are grafted, the scion or fruiting wood is capable of flowering at a very young age. Most citrus bloom in the spring, but the ripening time varies greatly. See our variety list for specifics about ripening. If fruit develops the first year, we often pinch the fruit off to encourage leaf and stem development. Generally a Two-Three Year tree will bloom in the spring if given adequate light, water and fertilizer. Each year as the tree grows; it will have more fruit producing capacity.
Q: How much light is needed for fruit production?
A: Blooming and fruiting is dependent on adequate light and heat. Citrus trees in a dark or shaded space will produce lots of foliage but may not flower. If you do not have a bright window, skylight or greenhouse, you may want to supplement with grow lights. For best results indoors, simulate California weather by providing a minimum of 6 hours of direct light each day. Grow lights can be used in addition to sunlight and should not be left on longer than the daylight hours.
